In October 2023, Israel wanted to eradicate Hamas, to the fast forward to October 2025, Hamas is making a peace deal with Israel and the world is in shock. Israel and US never considered Hamas eligible enough to represent the people of Gaza on any political forums until now, for them they were terrorists and radicals but suddenly the table turned, The very underrepresented Hamas became the party on table to the most aggressive nation in the world, Israel, making the Gaza politically represented, and turning one sided political battle into two party battle where Hamas is also a strong party that one can’t be overlooked anymore. The negotiations and peace deal is not guarenteed as if it will bring long lasting peace in Palestine or not, but this peace deal, suddenly gave the charge of Gaza in direct hands of Hamas in an unexpected way. Not considering Hamas as only legitimate group of Gaza backfired the enemy forces globally in last two years. This is why Israel later realised that to get captives released, they will eventually need a political support of Hamas in order to reach to a deal.
There was a one sided war in Gaza which continued for last two years non stop. Israel was killing the people of Gaza and the world was either watching it unfold silently or even if someone tried to make a peace deal between two parties, Israel removed Hamas as serious party on the discussion table. So the deal never worked, However now, eventually the lesson was learnt, without making Hamas a main point of contact in Gaza, nothing can be ever solved. This peace deal has accepted Hams as biggest political group in the region who is reliable to reach any deal whether good or bad.
A psychological win
The Gaza peace Agrreement is favouring Hamas in all possible way that anyone could have imagined so far. Hamas is highlighted not only as an armed group now, but after accepting the peace proposal, they also showed they are very much active in political realms too. They showed the wisdom of accepting this deal which made them look as an compassanionate group in front of the whole world, who is willing to talk, who is flexible to deal with. Above all it made Hamas a humanize group who values the human life of enemies too.
Hamas releasing captives is the befitting reply to the propaganda which said, The group wanted to kill all Israeli captives from the very beginning. Not only Hams released the victims safely but they showed that they saved the lives of Israeli captives even when all of Gaza strip was getiing bombed almost on daily basis and it was hard to protect their life for this lng period of time. By safely handing over the captives to Israel, Hamas turned the table of narrative in their favour very swiftly. This act of genorosity has made them a group which is very much wise and smart even in political landscapes.
Future of Peace deal
Amongst all the celeberation in Gaza and Israel, as both recieves their prisioners, the future of peace deal hangs in uncertainity as both Hamas and Israel doesnt trust each other. After serious violations in Gaza and getting bombed on this massive scale, Hamas has no reason to trust Israel. Hamas likely accepted the ceasefire deal to present their side of story, as they are not the killing machine as the global media presented. The group tried to present the narrative that they did not wanted to kill the Israeli priosoners and returned them in the most graceful manner. Also they wanted some relief for their people by stopping the war in Gaza, but all these things are no reason that the peace is long lasting and Israel will stick to peace in the future. On the other hand, Israel became villian in front of whole world as the genocide was live streamed for two years on daily basis. Muslims or non-Muslim all aligned in same line for Palestine and they showed concern for what was happening to the people of Gaza. This genocide tarnished the image of Israel in a way, they never have thought before. So Israel most likely accepted the peace deal to damage control their image globally. But how long this peace deal will hold is something that will depend on global politics now. As long as Israel doesnt feel the time is right to retuen to the war, a time where they are not attacked in global narrative, until then they will not resume the war. This means a few months of peace at least is in place in Gaza now.
Future of Hamas
Hamas has emerged as mainstream political group of Middle East now, a group who is capale to simultaneously fight on the ground and also talks with giants of global politics like US and Israel at the same time. The way Hamas has taken control of Gaza physically seems permanent as long as next war doesnt start. Whenever war restarts again, Hamas is likely to get support from all Muslim nations. All the Shia nations like Iran, Hezbollah and others already supported Hamas, and now by participating in the peace talks with Trump, many Sunni nations also standing behind Hamas, wchih makes them uniqely positioned as most influencial group of Middle East in the future. As far as the question about arming or disarming of Hamas is concerned, they will arm or disarm is not the question anymore, as they are the only available option to the table to deal with. So entertaing Hamas with arms or without arms, is only viable option for all global forces in the future.
